Austin, TX — Available for hire
Strategist first. Designer always.
Eight years leading creative and brand decisions across cannabis, media, broadcast, and health tech — with a systems discipline forged in nuclear power plant operations.
Capabilities
Not a T-shaped designer. More like a circuit board — multiple strong paths that connect.
Audience architecture, positioning, and the connective tissue between business problems and cultural resonance.
End-to-end UX/UI design for web and mobile. From concept to shipped product, with a bias toward systems that scale.
Built a health data app from zero. Ran analytics programs. Turns numbers into narratives that inform decisions.
About
I'm a strategist and senior product designer with 8+ years in leadership and 7+ in design — figuring out what to say, to whom, and why it would matter.
My path doesn't follow a straight line. I started as a Licensed Reactor Operator in the Navy, where ambiguity isn't a design constraint — it's a liability. That precision followed me into every brand and product decision since.
Both of my major creative homes have been nonprofits. At KTSW 89.9 FM I wrote and produced underwriting spots under FCC constraints commercial producers never face — no calls to action, no superlatives, no pricing. You make the brand land with pure identity or you get nothing. That discipline sharpened everything. I brought the same precision to Texas Cannabis Collective, where I built content strategy, editorial operations, UX direction, and social analytics from the ground up — co-hosting 65+ episodes of Texas Hemp Reporter before launching Lonestar Collective, which won Texas Hemp Awards for Best Publication in 2021 and 2022, plus Best Non-Profit in 2022. That work extended to the Texas Capitol — advocating directly to state legislators on hemp industry regulation through TxCannaCo and on veterans' benefits access through the Disabled American Veterans, where I currently serve as Senior Vice Commander.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State, and won the Lorenzo Estavillo Veteran Award for Academic Excellence. I write film criticism for Hyperreal Cinema. I built a health tracking app from scratch. I designed a gonzo journalism print publication.
I'm looking for a role where strategy and design aren't often separate departments — because the best work happens when they never were.
Selected Work
A mix of product design, brand strategy, editorial, and analytics work. Real problems, real constraints, real outputs.
Brand Strategy + Product Design
End-to-end design and product direction for a mobile-first cannabis content and advocacy platform. Defined audience architecture, content strategy, community engagement systems, and conversion-focused UX across web and social. Led design from brand identity through digital product in a regulated, politically volatile market.
↗
Editorial Design
A self-directed print publication concept built around a gonzo journalism design philosophy — equal parts Mad Magazine and Reader's Digest. A full layout system across 10+ pages: full-bleed title spreads, multi-column article layouts, and a documented design philosophy that treated tabloid irreverence and mainstream readability as a single design problem. The publication's name and voice were original conceits, not prompts.
↗
Product Design + Engineering
A web-based health data tracking application built from scratch in HTML/PHP/MySQL — no prior formal training. Multi-user auth, session-scoped data, AES-256 encryption, CSV export, and mobile-responsive design. Developed with patient feedback utilizing the top US pulmonary transplant center's medical team guidance. Built as both a functional tool and a proof of product thinking end-to-end.
↗
Content Systems + Analytics + Strategy
Two graphically-designed monthly and quarterly social analytics reports — one for a university department, one for Texas Cannabis Collective. Each report moves beyond raw metrics: explaining why top content performed and why underperforming content missed, framing data as strategic insight.
↗
Cultural Strategy + Writing
Film criticism and cultural analysis for Austin's Hyperreal Film Club, covering cult, overlooked, and disreputable cinema with an analytical voice that takes the genre seriously without losing its irreverence. Audience psychology applied to cultural artifacts.
↗
Broadcast + Production
Production Director and on-air work at Texas State's non-profit student run and staff advised college radio station. Wrote and produced PSAs, promos, and specialty programming. Designed and hosted a themed show. Built experience in scripted audio performance, live production, and broadcast brand voice.
↗
Advertising Strategy + Campaign Concept
Self-initiated campaign concepts for three distinct brands — each built from a real strategic insight, not a brief. Alamo Drafthouse, Lone Star Beer, and USAA. Different audiences, different tones, one consistent approach: find the thing only that brand can say, then build around it.
